Witchcraft and Christianity

I grew up Catholic. Going to a Catholic school and going to church every Sunday. Although I am no longer Catholic, and neither is the majority of my family, my family still practices and identifies with Christianity. I am nervous and hesitant to share my newly found spiritual practices with them, because they believe that Witchcraft is the work of the devil and is a direct practice against Christianity and God as a whole. I wanted to write this blog piece because I wanted to explain that this is not the case. You can be a Witch AND a Christian simultaneously.
There are many different forms of Witchcraft practices. More than I am truly aware of. I am still learning about the practice, but one thing that I have learned so far is that you can believe in whatever God you want to believe in. Therefore, you can be both a Christian and a Witch. The main difference that I see between practicing traditional Christianity and the practice of Witchcraft, is that Witches tend to live more in the moment and appreciate the world and energies and nature surrounding them at that point in time, where as Christians focus more on the future and how they are going to get to heaven and a good afterlife. This is where I feel a stronger connection to Witchcraft. I believe that it is important to understand, appreciate, and acknowledge the world surrounding me in the moment and understand the energies that I release and the energies surrounding my every day life rather than try and prep for a world after this one. It seems silly to me to live for a point in time that is not yet existing. It seems a waste to not take in all that is surrounding us while we are still alive.
I mentioned this passage in my first analysis of "The Art of Witch" book by Fiona Horne, but I feel it has a strong connection to this link to Christianity. Horne speaks of a time where she heard the voice of the 'Christian Father God' in which it referenced the trees and allowed Horne to notice how they are all different yet the same. She states "A tree's survival depends on its diversity. If every tree were the same, it would die." She continued expressing the voice of God in which she heard say
"My survival depends on the diversity of my love. Every Spiritual path is an instrument, and when these instruments are played together they become a symphony-a symphony of the soul- and that is my voice. The voice of God" (Horne 21-22).
Therefore, "God's voice depend(s) on the diversity of its expression." Witchcraft is just a different way of expressing the spirituality that is capable of honoring a Christian God within all the other practices that may seem unconventional to traditional Christians.
I have read a few blogs in which invalidate the practice of Witchcraft under Christian intentions and manifestations. This invalidation of spirituality is misguided and very ostracizing of this group that call themselves Christians. A true Christian and person of faith would be fully accepting of individuals practicing their faith no matter which outlet they choose to do it through. One can believe in God AND the energies that he created in the world. One can have faith while also expressing awareness of souls present in multiple realms of existence. A Witch can believe that all their workings and practices were made possible by a 'Christian Father God' and condemning people for these practices truly separates these groups based on untrue stereotypical beliefs that Witches work for the devil. My practice of Witchcraft honors creation, and the presence of energies in which can be used to better one's connection with the world around me. I do not worship the devil. I do consider myself a Witch. And I am not disconnected from the ideas and practices of Christianity.
I am still learning and reading and practicing, but this is where I stand and this is what I truly believe. No matter what spirituality you claim to be, it is all really up to you what you believe. No matter what you identify as, do not allow people to condemn you for your beliefs. Spirituality stretches far and wide and is intended to fulfill your soul with the self care and guidance that you need.
Identify however you want. Believe whatever you believe. And if you want to be a 'Christian Witch', be a freaking 'Christian Witch'.
